Everything You Need to Know About Vaping in Public

As we know, vaping is much healthier than cigarette smoking. Smoking Health England estimates vaping to be 95% less harmful than cigarette smoking. But, even with everything we know, government officials are still cautious about vaping in public.

Right now, the UK is one of the most vape-friendly countries around. Standing as one of the biggest vaping communities in the world, you'll be pleased to know you can vape almost anywhere, with just a couple of exceptions.

Let's make sure we lead the vaping community with respect and a little bit of love. Here's a list of all the places you can vape, and a little Etiquette 101.

Sectors with Restrictions on Vaping in Public

Typically, you shouldn't have to worry too much about vaping in public. If you're out taking the dog for a walk in the local park, puff away to your heart's desire.

While common sense and manners apply to some venues, a few black-and-white rules apply to others.

There are three large sectors that you have to be careful about:

• Businesses
• Transportation
• Sports Stadiums

Businesses

Businesses are able to call the shots when it comes to vaping. You'll have to refer to each individual business owner as to their preference.

Make sure you ask your bartender as you pull up a barstool for the evening. The same goes for the waitress at your table.

If you're outside, of course, you're probably alright to enjoy some vaping with your dessert.

If you're inside, there might be rules to abide by and you'll also want to check your surroundings. For example, no vaping around kids!

Here's a short list of a few eateries that are definitely vape-free:

• Starbucks
• Caffe Nero
• Wetherspoons
• KFC

Transportation

Since you're heading into a confined space, you probably won't be surprised to know that vaping is banned on all train systems, except Southeastern.

It's also forbidden on the tube.

For all the same reasons, vaping is completely banned by all airports and major UK airlines.

Tanks are small enough to be allowed on the plane but don't even think about pulling it out for a puff.

So far, Heathrow Airport's leading the pack with a vaping area at terminal four in case you need to relax after that long wait in the security queue.

Sports Stadiums

Like cigarette smoking, vaping is banned on all EPL grounds.

We wouldn't be surprised if you've spotted a fan or two sneaking in a puff, but this is something you don't want to get kicked out for doing - especially if the game is good!

Etiquette 101

Now that we've covered the official business, let's discuss general rules for vaping in public.

We hate to even mention these but, if we're being honest, we all have a friend or two that could benefit from this impromptu review.

Never Assume

There's something about going for a drive and having a smoke. But, since we all want to live a little longer, now it's all about the drive and the vape.

Unless you're with a fellow vaper, or you know the person you're with doesn't mind, always ask before puffing away.

Some people have such allergies, you can't even wear perfume around them. Imagine what some vapors would do to their senses?

Don't Be That Guy (or Girl)

Don't be that guy who vapes where it's not allowed, such as EPL grounds. It's really not cool.

We've seen some people sneak in puffs at supermarkets and movie theatres. Insert eye roll, especially with children around.

Speaking of Children...

Don't vape around children... ever. Although vaping is so much better than old-fashioned cigarettes, it still contains nicotine.

None of us want to be responsible for exposing healthy little lungs to nicotine. Try to take it outside and vape somewhere where the kids won't breathe it in or start to think it's something they want to do when they grow up.

While we're on it, try not to leave any of your paraphernalia around either. Don't let any unassuming kiddos pick anything up because it looks cool and take a puff.

Know Your Role

A lot of people don't quite understand vaping. Many assume it's not any better for you than smoking.

When you take a puff, be armed with a couple fun facts. Let people know you're not going to kill them over lunch.

Let them know you're reducing your health risks associated with smoking, too. But don't take it too personally if they don't hop on board our train.

If they don't buy it, then they don't buy it. And that's okay, too.

Recent Changes to the Laws About Vaping

In May of this year, a couple new restrictions came through regarding the strength of the e-liquids, the size of the tanks, and some of the additives.

This probably means there's a chance the laws pertaining to vaping in public will change, too.

Let's take a look a couple of these new initiatives:

• Tanks can be no more than 2 ml.
• Refill containers can be no more than 10 ml.
• The nicotine strength can be no more than 20 mg/ml.
• Colorings, caffeine, and taurine are banned.
